K.G. Muraleedhara Gurukkal (now aged at 70 years), who’s the chief Gurukkal, has more than 50 years of experience in the fields of “Kalaripayattu” & “marma” therapy. He is equally proficient in other martial arts & fighting forms like Karate and Wrestling (“Gusthi“). Gurukkal was the International Karate Champion in the year 1978, in the sparring/fighting category. He was the leader of the Wrestling team that won the State-level “Gusthi” championship in 1976. Muraleedhara Gurukkal had also a brief stint in the Movie industry, having trained himself as a stunt master.

The 3 sons of K.G. Muraleedhara Gurukkal – Manoj Gurukkal (Kalaripayattu trainer, who’s also a member of the Kerala Police Force), Dr S.M. Siju B.A.M.S. (heading the Therapy, Yoga & Astrology divisions) & Biju Gurukkal (Kalaripayattu & Yoga trainer) – are now actively engaged in the day-to-day functioning of the Kalari. They are as dedicated as their father, determined to sustain the quality of the Kalari, and further develop it to newer heights.
