Diabetes and Lifestyle Management:

Kerala has earned the scary repute of “the diabetes capital of India” quite a few years ago, and has been steadily maintaining it. Not good!

If you want to know the stats, please check the article by The Hindu.

The focus here is on Type 2 Diabetes as it’s the one that’s causing nightmares to many. It’s one of those Lifestyle diseases that the Keralites have unwittingly, yet so willingly acquired!

The fact that Type 2 Diabetes has come to affect even our Children, to alarming degrees, is shocking.

What’s with our present lifestyle that has caused this to happen?

We have become Lazybones, Couch Potatoes, Junk Foodies and Alcoholics! Our body joints have become as stiff as a poker! Our back bone (vertebra) that houses the spinal canal/cord has lost its flexibility. Our whole body system, especially the nervous system, functions with relegated ability, causing Obesity, Stress and Fatigue like disorders, all leading to Type 2 Diabetes.

What must change in our Lifestyle?

  1. We must in fact drop everything sedentary about our lifestyle.
  2. The Junk Food eating habit and other poor dietary habits.
  3. The excessive booze, especially if you are taking oral diabetes medicines or insulin.
  4. Your obsession with the couch. Leave it, and embrace the life outside.
  5. Engage in as many physical activities as we can.
  6. Exercise all our joints, especially the neck ones.
  7. Well balanced meals, with proper diet management.
  8. Regular intake of smaller portions of food at frequent intervals.
  9. Diabetic snack that has Extra Fibre, Complex Carbohydrates, Zero Added Sugar, Zero Cholesterol and Zero Trans Fats.
  10. Meditate regularly; keep calm at all times to lead a stress-free life.
