Started by Mrs Mariyam Antony (affectionately known among the local people as “Mammi Chedathy”) well before the founding year 1953, the brand is now maintained by Mrs Kathrina, her daughter-in-law.
Mrs Kathrina is strongly supported by her own daughter-in-law, Mrs Jyothi, who belongs to the second generation of descendants to Mammi Chedathy’s tradition of healthy & tasty snacks.
It was “Churuttu”, Kottaya’s own speciality snack, that made Mammi Chedathy a brand name at Kottayam. She later added “Kuzhalappam” and “Achappam” to her Kitchen portfolio, and still more items when she found the perfect culinary partner in her daughter-in-law, Mrs Kathrina.
Mrs Kathrina continued to add more snacks to the brand name, drawing inspiration and divine support from her mother-in-law Mammi Chedathy, after the latter’s demise in the year 1993. The brand now makes cakes, halwa, jilebi, laddu etc besides a whole lot of yummy traditional Kerala snacks.
The establishment is completely managed by ladies. Around 20 lady staff works in the Kitchen and retail outlet at Mammi Chedathy’s Food Products, under the supervision of Mrs Kathrina and Mrs Jyothi.
The retail outlet is open from 8:30 AM to 8 PM on weekdays, and from 10 AM to 5 PM on Sundays.
Even though they have just one retail outlet, traders from all over Kerala come and buy products from them for extended sale. Most often, the supply would fail to satisfy the demand. But, that’s quite normal with top-quality brands, isn’t it?!
How do they manage to maintain consistent purity and quality throughout these years? They hand-pick the food ingredients from well-trusted agents; wash, roast and grind rice in their own machinery, stick to their traditional food recipes, and follow strict QA processes during each stage of snack preparation and packaging.
